wishes

i love this girl.  i can't believe how fast she is growing!  it is both happy and sad.  sometimes i wish i could keep her like this forever.
and speaking of wishes, i would like to wish a  happy birthday to my brother nathan--- i love and miss you!

cuddles and rolls

today as hazel started to get fussy i scooped her up and held her tight against my chest.  she laid her little cheek against my shoulder and held tightly onto my hair.  she was asleep in seconds.  i savored every second of our cuddle time. 

she was probably exhausted from all the rolling over she has been doing, that's right, rolling over!  she has been able to roll over {with assistance} for a couple weeks now but today she started rolling over all by herself.  once she got the hang of it she did it again and again and again...  i can't believe how fast she is growing!

                                                  i sewed.

i was starting to get tired of every baby wearing the same outfit so i decided to make some hazel originals.  embellished onesie + leg warmers.  i can't wait to get started on more! 

don't look too closely at the leg warmers.  i don't have a sewing machine and do all my sewing by hand, plus i am still a beginner.  i hated sewing growing up; i just didn't have the attention span.  who am i kidding, i still don't have the attention span-- these 15 minute projects are perfect for me!

hazel's room thus far

moving right when hazel was born made nursery decorating very difficult.  no sleep + little one to take care= no desire to decorate.  before hazel was born i had several things picked out for her room but after getting to know her little personality changed my mind.  she needed a bright colorful room to match her bright colorful personality.  i decided to make some nie inspired fans to hang above her rocking chair.  the rocking chair is vintage which my mom and i re-painted and then antiqued.  

 these picture frames i got from a thrift store and then whitewashed and filled with scrapbook paper.

 this hutch was first in my older sister's bedroom and then in mine.  my mom never got rid of it and gave it to me for hazel's room.

 on the shelves left to right.  top shelf: my first ever oil painting made about 6 years ago, a card that came with one of hazel's gifts, vintage sheet music. middle row: stuffed animals, anagram i made using buttons, glass jar filled with headbands, bows and jewelery. bottom row: lamp, stuffed animals, baby lotion and vase.

i found this print online and loved it.  this was my starting piece which i used to pick out the rest of the items for her room.

i still have a lot of work to do: curtains, a rug, more items for the wall and a crib skirt but i thought i would share what i have done so far!

1 month

my sweet little girl is 1 month old today.  i feel so blessed to have such a good baby.  she hardly ever cries and when she does she is really easy to calm down.  last night i gave her a bath and she did not fuss at all, she was happy as could be the entire time. 

being a mom is not at all what i expected. it is definitely hard work but is so so worth it; sometimes when i hold her my eyes fill with tears because i love her so much. 

my favorite hazel memory this month: i was burping her and she was having a hard time getting a burp out.  i had her over my shoulder and after a while she pulled her head back, looked me straight in the eyes and then burped right in my face!  it was the cutest and funniest thing ever!

drive in

david thought up the perfect new baby date night.  we enjoyed a fun night at the drive in; it was perfect with treats from home and hazel asleep in the back seat.

just a week and a half to go until my due date.  i am getting so excited to meet my little girl!

last night

i dreamed i gave birth to a kitten.
i craved chili dogs, hashbrowns and sauerkraut.
i tossed and turned what seemed like 1,000 times.

pregnancy is quite the experience.

ultrasound

i went to an ultraound today and although we were able to see a healthy heart and brain we were unable to see any boy/girl parts so we continue to wait in suspense.... here's to next month's ultrasound!

19 weeks.

tonight i was going through pictures on my computer and came across this. i don't remember ever seeing this picture, or taking it for that matter. i had to laugh because this picture is a very close representation on my life over the past 4 months. a blur. i was so excited when i found out i was pregnant and then after about two weeks the excitement turned into extreme sickness and i honestly (and thankfully) don't remember a whole lot from that time. i am finally (knock on wood) starting to feel better and i am praying it lasts.

this thanksgiving weekend made me reflect on my life and how much i truly have to be thankful for: an amazing husband, a baby on the way, a roof over our heads, food to eat and water to drink, cars that run (most of the time), a church just minutes from our home and a temple just a couple hours away, beloved family members...
i am so blessed.

first trimester: check

i wish i had a lot of exciting updates to share but truthfully the past couple of months have been pretty miserable. i never guessed that "morning sickness" (very misleading name) would be so intense. i am just starting my second trimester now so i am really hoping the" all day sickness" (more accurate name) lets up soon.

we did get to hear/see the baby's heart beating. that was pretty amazing.
