my most vivid memory from that day is going to seminary. it was my last class of the day and by then everyone was emotionally exhausted from going to each and every class and talking about nothing but what had happened that day. the terror that took place right in our own country. seminary was so refreshing. we prayed and we sang hymns. i remember looking up at the american flag hanging above the chalkboard as we sang a hymn i had never heard until that day. a hymn that is now one of my favorites. "where can i turn for peace? where is my solace?"
as the shock and terror of what happened began to fade it amazed me to see how america chose to react. america came together. america chose to turn to god for peace. and life moved on.
in our own lives we are constantly being bombarded with spiritual 9/11's. where do we turn? we can choose to hold on and be bitter. or we can choose to turn to god and allow him to fill our hearts with peace.
and he helps us move on.

I was going to college in Virginia. I was getting ready for the day listening to NPR on the radio. I listened as it all happened--the first airplane, and then the second. It was unreal. All our classes and meetings were canceled that day. It hit home for a lot of people I knew because many of them were from New York and had family working in the city. Fifty or so girls on my floor sat in front of our floor's little TV crying and wondering for much of the day.
